Perry is the child of Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as as seen through flashback) Her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's early TV appearances. The parents of her didn't want her to perform until she turned older and worried about the consequences of stress. Perry acknowledged that she was not comfortable acting in high school, but started acting to meet new people at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry moved to New York, where she got small roles on shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Home sickiness brought Perry home to California, where theater jobs were readily available. Her mother and she appeared on Broadway together as part of The Other Place, in 2013. The show was directed by Eugene O'Neill. Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie and Kevin McKidd. This was performed at West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry appeared nine times in the ABC thriller The Family, in 2016. In 2017, Perry starred in the role of a political thriller Scandal with her father. That same year she was cast as a young model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger character of her mom's. The character was picked via auditions the fact that she had a deep relationship with the show.
